Cultural heritage is not the same thing as national identity

2010

public art, facade of historical building, Komarno, Slovakia

The quotation from British philosopher Anthony C. Grayling, critic of nationalism, who argues, that “Cultural heritage is not the same thing as national identity”, is displayed on the façade of historical building in Komarno, built in ninetheen century during Austrian- Hungarian monarchy. On the plain façade of the building artist created only ‘footprint’ of the quotation.

The absence of real letters questions the fact of time and reason of the text's displaying or dismantling. It could be written and/or torn down by each nationality a few times in last century under the changes of dominancy of national powers. The work test the defgree of actual multiethnic cohabitation and consequences of overlapping national histories.
